Books for 11 year olds start to explore a wide range of topics not seen at a younger age. Including historical learning with settings and characters in the past, current events and recent history, and emotional wellbeing and more complicated social situations.
Moving into preteen reading with all the scope of themes and ideas, books for 11 year olds are often longer chapter books, containing either far more chapters than younger reading or chapters with more pages in each, or both. As well as the move from primary to secondary school, 11 year olds are beginning to mature.
