Easter will soon be here and many parents are looking for more than just chocolate to excite their children! We have always given Easter gifts – something small, usually crafty or a book – which give the children something to do whilst they eat their eggs! Easter books are great for stories, craft ideas, art activities and more. No matter how old your child, there is an Easter book out there which will grab their interest!

Easter Books - all the fun of Egg Hunt!
Nothing beats an egg hunt at Easter! Whether it be out in the garden, where the silly old Easter Bunny has dropped his eggs as he hops about, or throughout the house (the Easter Bunny most definitely comes indoors when it is raining!), an egg hunt guarantees a scramble to find the most/biggest/chocolatiest! When my son decided he didn’t believe in the EB anymore, he became the hunt setter although I do believe his levels of ingenuity were actually to prevent anyone else finding the eggs and therefore guaranteeing himself a lovely feast at the end!

This lovely book by Laura Hughes is a joy for little ones and is perfect for getting them ready for Easter day!  With lots of flaps to lift and eggs to find and count, it really is great fun, engaging and interactive There are echoes of the popular Bear Hunt on which it is based and your youngsters will enjoy the lambs, chicks, bees and ducks they meet on the way. There is a terrific activity book which can be bought alongside it, full of puzzles, colouring, games and stickers! A great gift indeed.

Mr Impossible and the Easter Egg hunt is another absolute delight of a book! For those of us who grew up on the Mr Men and Little Miss books, this is a great opportunity to snuggle back into the comforting world of Misterland where things go wrong and then get put right; people are kind and angry in equal measures; some people are very clever, others aren’t; where there is a gentle understanding of what it is like to be different – all illustrated with bold, clear colours and characters. In this story, Mr Impossible is in Happyland, helping Mr Happy with the Easter Egg Hunt however, as his name implies, he hides the eggs in some impossible places (my son would be impressed!).

Lift the Flap books are just brilliant for young readers. Babies and toddlers can get involved in the reading experience – they love to touch and feel, to interact on as many levels as possible. Young readers can start to predict what might be beneath the flaps and begin to lead the story. Peter Rabbit is a much loved character and many children will know the stories (either from the books or the highly popular 2018 film). In this book, they meet all the characters and help them in all manner of things before finding the ten hidden Easter Eggs – with a pop up surprise!

If you want to get your children Egg Hunt ready in preparation for the big day, you can always try out a scavenger hunt! Once they have understood the principle of finding a particular object, you could adapt this game for Easter – it just takes a little prep and works best with more than one child! Take photos of the eggs and create cards in advance. On the day, each child takes a card and searches for the egg on that card. When they have found it, they bring it back to base, pop the egg in their own basket and take another card. If, on their hunt, they find an egg that is not on their card, they are honour bound to leave it in situ and carry on looking. It’s a great memory game as, if they then get that egg on their card, they can find it speedily! It also needs some good observation skills. If you Mr Impossible the eggs, it’ll keep them busy for hours!
