fun engineering
a real hit with 5yo nephew. we started with the parachute, which brought great delight being dropped down the stairs. We worked through the instructions together and the pics were nice and clear.

As I say this is a Christmas present and so as yet it has not been opened but it looks interesting and hopefully it will be fascinating to our grandson who has just started school and is inquisitive.

I’d give this 2.5 out of five. The main thing to know in advance is that this is not a standalone kit with everything you need. On the first page of the instruction book is a massive list of extra stuff you need: marbles, 3 metres of thin rope, empty yoghurt cartons, bathtub (!), long wooden board, paper towels, two wooden spoons, glue, scissors, building blocks etc etc. Some families may have all this lying around but others will not (who has marbles these days?) and it may lead to frustration because the child will not be able to start the kit immediately until these things are gathered. In fact, several of the 21 experiments rely entirely on “extra” things and do not use any of the components in the box. The other thing to note is that many of the components of the kit are made from cardboard, which isn’t clear from the pictures on the box. The kit comes with an instruction book which is good and bad at the same time. It’s got good explanations of engineering principles appropriate for 6 year old, with pictures. However the instructions on how to build the projects are not always so good. Unlike Lego, it is not always clear which of the little plastic bits is required when, and my son got very frustrated that sometimes the pictures didn’t match the parts available. On the positive side, it’s not easy to teach engineering to young children - as evidenced by the number of engineering kits available compared to the number of chemistry kits - and they’ve had a good try at it with this kit.

It’s a gift and unopened as yet , so may know more later. My only slight disappointment is that I can’t look inside or get details of the experiments . I would have purchased some extras as listed to go with it , but hard to know without selecting a few experiments.
