This kept me and my son busy for quite a while - I think most kids would be hard pressed to do it on their own. The parts come on sheets and which need to be broken out and then the little plastic pieces that are left need to be cut off with a knife. The instructions are clear so assembly is straight forward but it's easy to make a mistake and then you have to go back. The motor/solar cell combo is a little weak so any resistance in the build and it won't run. You need to make sure that everything runs free and we had to rebuild the gearbox a few times to get it right. A fun toy and project for dad and son/daughter. My son is 7 and it was a bit beyond him. I would think it is better suited to 9+.

This was a present for my great nephew (8 years old). He was delighted with it and started building the moment he opened it!
